Banks on the other hand came up as a DJ/producer for another Oakland rapper, MC Ant, who released two local LP's at the turn of the decade.
On "Powerhouse," MC Ant (who was taken from us in 1999), flips New York-influenced verbals in a voice and delivery somewhere between early Ren and Dre while Banks relies mostly on percussion, possibly a combination of a breakbeat and programmed drums finished off with some cutting and scratching.
You missed out mentioning one important thing post-MC Ant but pre-$short that kinda was the biggest thing he did at the time, and that was MC Pooh's "Fuckin' With Dank", which is the prototype post "Run DMC era 2 Short" town anthem (if that makes sense).
