Encyclopedia > Ant McPartlin

Anthony McPartlin (born 18 September 1975) and Declan Donnelly (born 25 September 1975), more commonly known as Ant and Dec, are popular presenters of light entertainment television programmes in the United Kingdom.

While they both appeared in TV programs such as Why Don't You? as young children, the pair first formed a screen partnership as the teenage characters PJ and Duncan in the BBC children's drama series Byker Grove. Their friendship continued off-screen as well as on and after they left the TV series they turned their hand to pop music, releasing (under the name "PJ and Duncan") songs such as Let's Get Ready to Rhumble (sic) which included the lines "Watch us wreck the mic, watch us wreck the mic, watch us wreck the mic, psyche!" which briefly caused the use of the word "psyche" as a synonym for "not", presumably coming from "I was only psyching you out", in the playgrounds of Britain. (Using "not" at the end of a sentence to negate its meaning had already been popularized by Wayne's World not long previously.) In total they released three albums - Psyche and Top Katz as PJ and Duncan and The Cult of Ant & Dec as Ant and Dec.

Later the duo moved into television presenting. They enjoyed success fronting ITV's Saturday morning children's programme SM:TV Live and subsequently moved to Saturday evening to present fare aimed at adults such as Friends Like These, Pop Idol and Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. Their highest audience figures to date were obtained whilst presenting I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! in February 2004.

In 2002, at the age of 27, Ant and Dec received a joint Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Television Awards.

SMTV Live - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (4063 words)
After Ant and Dec's departure and their replacement with Brian and Tess, the show became SMTV 2099:The Next Generation, but this was only referenced as a sign at the bottom, and never by the presenters.
Ant also occasionally appeared as a schoolboy in these sketches, where he was an overweight boy who ate huge amounts of food and was referred to as Gi-Ant.
Ant answered correctly, and that got a laugh, but then Dec, red-faced, announced that the next prize up for grabs was a DVD of Free Willy, which reduced the studio to hysterics.
