Anthology 2 achieved amazing success, as did its predecesor – Anthology 1. In the United States it debuted at #1, selling 442,000 copies the first week. The following week, the album slipped to #2, selling 201,000 copies, knocked out of first place by Alanis Morisette's blockbuster Jagged Little Pill. The album managed to spend 2 more weeks on the Top 10 (at #4 and then #8), remaining for 22 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200 and then re-entering the charts twice, marking a notable #96 reach during the Christmas season of 1996. In al, the album spent 37 weeks on the charts (8 more than Anthology 1) and sold 1,707,000 copies (confirmed by RIAA), being certified Double Platinum. In the UK, the success was similar. Anthology 1 was a #2 album when released in 1995, but its sucessor managed to reach #1, where it remained for one week. Then the album moved quickly down the charts but did spend a total of 12 weeks there (considerably better than Anthology 1, which spent only 5 weeks in the Top 75).
