Before forming The Wiggles, Field was in the 1980s Australian pop/rock band, The Cockroaches alongside his brothers, Paul and John and another future Wiggle, Jeff Fatt. Following the breakup of The Cockroaches in the 1980s, Field enrolled in early childhood studies at Macquarie University in Sydney. Here he met the other members of The Wiggles, guitarist Murray Cook and vocalist Greg Page.
