An Antisystemic Library is a library which adopts a non-hierarchical cataloguing methodology. This has been developed in conjunction with DanishSituationistAsger Jorn's notion of Triolectics and the work of the AmericanPhilosopherCharles Peirce. The Situationist International (SI), an international political and artistic movement, originated in the Italian village of Cosio dArroscia on 28 July 1957 with the fusion of several extremely small artistic tendencies: the Lettrist International, the International movement for an imaginist Bauhaus, and the London Psychogeographical Association. ... We shall investigate the pressures responsible for the restructuring represented by the social sciences by studying the ways in which categories/disciplines were established and institutionalized as university chairs and departments, scholarly journals and professional organizations, and library and book publishers' designations.
By analyzing this process and the current calls for and attempts at reorganization we may then address the question whether there are inherent contradictions in the cultural processes of the world-system that today can no longer be contained within the existing structures of knowledge.
We shall seek to analyze the long-term, world-historical formation of antisystemic movements of all kinds over the last two centuries, and the ways in which they related to each other.
The AntisystemicLibrary is not a group as such, rather the libraries that use these principles considered as a whole can be called 'The Anti-systemic Library'.
The software we are helping to build is the metadata system for the AntisystemicLibrary, using this website (or installing the software on a web server) readers can create their own library and use their own taxonomical structures for categorizing their collections.
Methodlology aside, the purpose of the AntisystemicLibrary is to provide access to materials and knowledge that has previously had no commercial or official distribution infrastructure.
