In 1988, an attempt was made on Lahad's life by a Lebanese woman named Soha Bechara. Though seriously injured, Lahad survived the assassination attempt.


At the time of the SLA's collapse, Lahad was in Paris with his family. He returned to Israel but arrived after the remainder of the SLA had left Lebanon. He has family members in France, but the French authorities denied him permission to live in France.
