Beresch was a former USSR Army officer and later joined became a member of the Dawn Brigade a Russian Separatist movement resposible for various bomings in Russia. Beresch was the leader of the group of terrorists that took hostages at the Ontario airport on day 5 of 24. He threatened to kill all of the hostages inside the airport if President Logan didn't call off the treaty signing with Russian Presiden Yuri Suvarov. Beresch broadcasted the executions of his hostages on live tv. Jack Bauer happended to be inside the terminal at the time Beresch and his men took over the terminal. Bauer was took pictures with his camera phone of the terrorists and sent them to CTU so that CTU could identify them. Beresch's men were wearing explosives vests one of which were detonated by Jack Bauer when Beresch attempted to execute Derek Huxley. Not long after Jack Bauer detonated the explosive vest that killed 2 of Beresch's men, Beresch recieved a phone call from someone letting him know that Jack Bauer was hiding inside the airport. Beresch threatened to execute Derek again if Jack didn't give himself up. Jack ended up giving himself up and Beresch forced him to tell Curtis Manning to bring his tact teams into a trap. Jack secretly alerted Curtis of this ambush by using the term a "Flank 2 position." Before Curtis and his team carried out the assualt on the terminal that would cause them to walk into a trap they were alerted by Lynn McGill who figured out what the term Flank 2 meant. Before the assault took place Beresch handed a key card to one of the hostages who turned out to be Evan Erwich a terrorist working for Vladimir Bierko. Beresch and his men expected CTU to move in to their trap but were out flanked by CTU. Jack Bauer attempted to capture Beresch by shooting his gun out of his hand when he tried to shoot himself. But Beresch detonated an explosive vest on a dead terrorist killing himself.
