Artist Antonio Roybal was born (october 1, 1976) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was drawn to art from a young age. At the age of 5, he wanted to be Pope. At age 14, he traveled to Portugal on a religious pilgrimage and studied with Robert J. Fox (one of the top 100 catholics of the 20th century). At age 17 he moved from Santa Fe to Colorado to study computer animation and fine art. In 1999 he moved back to Santa Fe to study with Linear Expressionist, Jean Claude Gaugy. In 2000, he traveled to Austria, Germany, Italy, France and Monaco. During this time he had an international show and studied with Fantastic Realist Ernst Fuchs. In 2002 he was named one of the top 100 contemporary hispanic artists by The National Hispanic Cultural Center. In 2005 he had a show in Key West Florida. Today he continues to paint and develop his style which is inspired by early mannerism and symbolism.

Roybal, who represented the Los Angeles area for 30 years in Congress after serving 13 years on the Los Angeles City Council, died of pneumonia in Pasadena a week ago Monday.
Roybal was born Feb. 10, 1916, in Albuquerque, N.M., but his family moved to the Boyle Heights area when he was 6.
