Antonis Samaras, also spelt, Adonis Samaras (born 1951) is a Greek politician and Member of the European Parliament for New Democracy; part of the European People's Party. 1951 (MCMLI) was a common year starting on Monday; see its calendar. ... He was Greek Foreign Minister in the Nea Demokratia (New Democracy) government of Konstantinos Mitsotakis (1989-1992). Hardliner on the "Macedonian Question" and on other "national" issues, dreaming of an "orthodox arch" on the Balkans. After being removed from his post in 1992 over the Macedonian Question, Samaras founded his own party, "Political Spring" [greek: Πολιτική Άνοιξη], located politically to the right of New Democracy. Political Spring had initially entered the greek parliament in the 1993 elections, yet failed to do so in the 1996 elections, remaining thereafter out of parliament, untill it was closed in 2000. He returned to his old party and is currently an MEP.
