"Aquascutum" is a UK-based clothing and apparel manufacturer. Owned and operated by Japanese company Renoun, the company has recently taken on Kim Winser as the Chief Executive Officer, in an attempt to bolster falling sales. Aquascutum's head office is located in the heart of London's retail centre, at 100 Regent Street, where the company was born in 1851. This was where John Emary opened a tailor's shop in Regent Street, London. He experimented with techniques for showerproofing wool and, in 1853, the breakthrough was made. Emary renamed his company to Aquascutum, Latin for "water shield". During the Crimean War, Aquascutum were able to provide soldiers with coats made from this new fabric. In 1917 it was introduced onto trench coats, worn by soldiers during the First and Second world wars. The company operates out of it's flagship Regent Street store, but also has a smaller store in Manchester.
