The Arab Socialist Unity (al-Ittihad al-Ishtiraki al-'Arabi) is a government controlled political party in Syria. The party was at the last legislative elections, 2 March 2003, part of the National Progressive Front (Al-Jabha al-Wataniyyah at-Wahdwamiyyah), that was awarded 167 out of 250 seats. The NPF is led by the Socialist Arab Rebirth Party. Arab unity is an ideal and a standard, not the outcome or a consequence of the fight of the Arab people for liberty and socialism.
In order to safeguard unity against the maneuvering of politicians and their verbal bargaining, and to exclude those whose class and regional interests are farthest from it, (the party) gave it blood and life and gathered around it the popular forces that are loyal to it and capable of accomplishing it.
Arab unity is approaching and we are now nearer to it than at any other time in the past because it is incorporated in the consciousness of the Arab masses.

The Arab Socialist Union (Arabic: الاتّحاد الاشتراكى العربى‎, al-Ittiḥād al-Ištirākī 'l-ʿArabī; French: L'Union Socialiste Arabe) is one of a number of loosely related political parties based on the principles of Nasserist Arab socialism in a number of countries.
The Arab Socialist Union was founded in Egypt in December 1962 by Gamal Abdel Nasser as the country's sole political party.
In July 1975, the Arab Socialist Union's general conference adopted a resolution on establishing political forums within the union for expression of opinion in accordance with basic principles of the Egyptian Revolution.
