Álava (Basque Araba, Spanish Álava) is a Spain, in the southern part of the autonomous community of the Basque Country. It is bordered by the provinces of Burgos, La Rioja, Navarra, Guipúzcoa, and Vizcaya. Its capital is Vitoria (Basque Gasteiz).

Araba was born in Akosombo, Ghana, where her Ghanaian civil engineer father had taken her English mother, Irene, to live.
