Scientific classification or biological classification is how biologists group and categorize extinct and living species of organisms (as opposed to folk taxonomy). ... Typical phyla Protists (IPA: ) are a heterogeneous group of living things, comprising those eukaryotes that are not animals, plants, or fungi. ... Subgroups Mycetozoa(slime moulds) Archamoebae    Pelobiontida    Entamoebida Gymnamoebia Various others The Amoebozoa are a major group of amoeboid protozoa, including the majority that move by means of internal cytoplasmic flow. ... Thomas Cavalier-Smith is a professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Oxford, and is winner of the International Prize for Biology 2004 and one of the most notable researchers concerning the relationships, development, and classification of living things. ... The entamoebae are a group of parasitic and commensal amoebae which lack mitochondria. ... Pelomyxa are giant amoebae, usually 500-800 μm, but occasionally passing 3 mm in length. ...

The Archamoebae are a group of Amoebozoa distinguished by the absence of mitochondria. They include two genera, Entamoeba and Endolimax, that are internal parasites or commensals of animals. A few species are human pathogens, causing diseases such as amoebic dysentery. The other genera of archamoebae live in freshwater habitats, and are unusual among amoebae in possessing flagella. Most have a single nucleus and flagellum, but the giant amoeba Pelomyxa has many of each. Subgroups Mycetozoa(slime moulds) Archamoebae    Pelobiontida    Entamoebida Gymnamoebia Various others The Amoebozoa are a major group of amoeboid protozoa, including the majority that move by means of internal cytoplasmic flow. ... In cell biology, a mitochondrion (plural mitochondria) (from Greek mitos thread + khondrion granule) is an organelle, variants of which are found in most eukaryotic cells[1][1]. Mitochondria are sometimes described as cellular power plants, because their primary function is to convert organic materials into energy in the form of... The entamoebae are a group of parasitic and commensal amoebae which lack mitochondria. ... Parasitism is an interaction between two organisms, in which one organism (the parasite) benefits and the other (the host) is harmed, though usually without killing the host. ... In ecology, commensalism is an interaction between two living organisms, where one organism benefits and the other is harmed. ... Dysentery is an illness involving severe diarrhea that is often associated with blood in the feces. ... A flagellum (plural, flagella) is a whip-like organelle that many unicellular organisms, and some multicellular ones, use to move about. ... In cell biology, the nucleus (from Latin nucleus or nuculeus, kernel) is found in all eukaryotic cells and contains the nuclear genes which form most of the cells genetic material. ... Pelomyxa are giant amoebae, usually 500-800 μm, but occasionally passing 3 mm in length. ...

Early molecular trees based on rRNA placed the parasitic or commensal genera (entamoebids) and the flagellate genera (pelobionts) as separate groups that diverged from other eukaryotes very early on, suggesting that the absence of mitochondria was a primitive condition. The absence of dictyosomes in Pelomyxa was also considered primitive, which would separate it from Entamoeba, which has dictyosomes. A non-coding RNA (ncRNA) is any RNA molecule that functions without being translated into a protein. ... Kingdoms Animalia - Animals Fungi Plantae - Plants Protista A eukaryote (IPA: ), also spelled eucaryote, is an organism with a complex cell or cells, in which the genetic material is organized into membrane-bound nucleus/nuclei. ... In cell biology, the Golgi apparatus (also called a Golgi body, Golgi complex, or dictyosome) is an organelle found in most eukaryotic cells, including those of plants, animals, and fungi. ...

The name Archamoebae, from Greek αρχη first, refers to this presumed antiquity. However, studies based on other genes have shown that this placement is an artifact of long-branch attraction. Instead, the Archamoebae are part of the Amoebozoa that have lost their mitochondria, and are particularly close relatives of the slime moulds. It also appears the pelobionts and entamoebids are not separate groups, i.e. Entamoeba and Endolimax developed separately from free-living ancestors. Typical orders Protostelia    Protosteliida Myxogastria    Liceida    Echinosteliida    Trichiida    Stemonitida    Physarida Dictyostelia    Dictyosteliida Slime moulds (or Slime molds in American English) are peculiar protists that normally take the form of amoebae, but under certain conditions develop fruiting bodies that release spores, superficially similar to the sporangia of fungi. ...
