Archdale is a city located in Randolph County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,014.

Geography

Archdale is located at 35°54'14" North, 79°57'58" West (35.903996, _79.966080)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.3 km² (7.8 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 9,014 people, 3,743 households, and 2,623 families residing in the city. The population density is 444.5/km² (1,151.8/mi²). There are 3,986 housing units at an average density of 196.6/km² (509.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.20% White, 2.75% African American, 0.47% Native American, 2.04% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 1.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,743 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% are non-families. 26.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $41,693, and the median income for a family is $50,245. Males have a median income of $34,449 versus $24,456 for females. The per capita income for the city is $20,424. 5.7% of the population and 5.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.5% of those under the age of 18 and 7.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
