He had several children, most of them born from his third marriage and late in his life:

• Archduke Joseph Charles Louis of Austria (1833-1905), the younger son of Palatine Joseph of his third marriage with Maria Dorothea of Wurttemberg.

• Archduchess Elisabeth Franziska of Austria, who married 1) Archduke of Austria-Este and 2) Archduke of Austria-Teschen

• Henriette of Austria who became Queen Consort of the Belgians as wife of Leopold II of Belgium
