Encyclopedia > Architectural state

The architectural state is the part of the CPU which holds the state of a process, this includes:

  • general purpose registers (as in AX,BX,CX... in a 80x86 processor).
  • Control Registers.
  • APIC Registers.
  • Machine State Registers.

This does not include actual computation units as an ALU for instance.

Method for detecting thread switch events - Patent 6272520 (5865 words)
The use of a common set of wires for multiple data arrays allows the architectural state data for multiple threads to be stored on the processor (on chip) in a multi-ported register file that is not significantly larger than a conventional multi-ported register file.
In effect, architectural state data for the currently executing thread is held in a set of foreground registers, while architectural state data for the other threads are held in one or more sets of background registers.
Architectural state data is deemed to be in the foreground when it is accessible through the common wires of shadow register file 460.
Transylvania Trust - Endangered Architectural Heritage (1611 words)
The immediate aim of this project is to create the background for the preservation of the endangered architectural heritage through completion of a state assessment and inventory of endangered buildings, which need urgent interventions, as well as creation of proper conditions for their continued maintenance.
The notion (1), state (2), qualitative and quantitative parameters (3) of the endangered Transylvanian (Middle Eastern European) architectural heritage, as well as the past and present state of its preservation, the social co-ordinates (4-5-6) and the tasks of specialists involved in its preservation all sustain the necessity of this project.
The endangered architectural heritage consists of buildings (castles, manors, mansions, churches, monasteries, dwellings) that are out of use, or are not being maintained by their owners, or the maintenance of which will sooner or later become impossible because of the disappearnce of the community they belong to.
