Gel-like matrix with all three fiber types


Areoloar tissue is the most common connnective tissue type and can be found in the skin as well as in places that connect epithelium to other tissues. Areolar tissue is composed of adipocytes. Areolar connective tissue keeps organs in place. It is also a component of mucus membrances found in the digestive, respiratory, reproductive, and urinary systems. (Michael Lew)
