The town of Argenta was chartered on January 6, 1865 and was situated at the mouth of Rattlesnake Creek on the south side of the stream.
The geologic structure of the Argenta district is dominated by the Humboldt anticline, a broad, broken, double plunging anticlinal fold trending northeast to north.
