The peso moneda corriente was an inconvertible Argentine currency between 1826-01-09 and 1881-11-04. Its symbol is $m/c. It was also known as peso papel (paper money) because there were no silver or gold coins as was the case in previous currencies. The oldest surviving photograph, Nicéphore Niépce, circa 1826 1826 (MDCCCXXVI) was a common year starting on Sunday (see link for calendar) of the Gregorian calendar (or a common year starting on Tuesday of the 12-day-slower Julian calendar). ... It started at par with the peso fuerte but the peso moneda corriente was devalued several times during its life.


It was replaced by the peso moneda nacional at the rate of twenty-five to one.


In the period from 1867-01-03 to 1876-05-17 the peso moneda corriente could be converted to gold, at the rate $m/c 25 = $F 1, in the Oficina de Cambios (exchange office) on the Banco de la Provincia de Buenos Aires. In this period currencies from other countries were used as well (especially Bolivian peso), but this could not be done after the introduction of the peso moneda nacional. The peso was the currency of Bolivia until 1987. ...
