This magical fraternity is a Thelemic organization whose announced goals are the pursuit of light and knowledge. Heavily influenced by the works and leadership of Aleister Crowley, the holy book of the order is Liber AL vel Legis, The Book of the Law. The motto, much like that of the O.T.O., is "Do what thou wilt," "Love is the Law, Love under Will."
The Argenteum Astrum has no formal connection to the O.T.O..
Various authentic "lineages" of the A∴A∴ survive today which can be traced back to the founders Aleister Crowley and George Cecil Jones. One such lineage is that founded by actress Jane Wolfe (Soror Estai). Infomation about this lineage can be found at www.ordoaa.org as well as www.thelema.org. Another lineage (www.redflame93.com) traces itself to Crowley through Grady McMurtry. A lineage in Brazil can be found at www.astrumargentum.org.br.
The organization also appears in the Illuminatus trilogy, though in that book the letters stand for nothing at all, and anyone who claims to know what they stand for thereby proves himself or herself a fraud.

Fuller co-edited with Crowley the Argentum Astrum magazine, The Equinox, and is credited also with introducing Crowley and Victor Neuburg, who became Crowley's most dedicated disciple and homosexual lover.
Neuburg was made a member of Crowley's Argentinum Astrum,(A.A.) and became Crowley's right hand man. He was often made to perform, by his mentor, all sorts of indignities as part of his magickal training.
Mudd was also a friend of Victor Neuburg, and as such, soon became a disciple of Aleister Crowley.
Mudd was made a member of Crowley's occult group, the Argentinum Astrum,(A.A.)and became Crowely's PR.
