History of Argentum Online
The development of the game began in late 2000. The team involved in the project was not professional, just simple people on the Internet with almost no experience in game development. When the first open beta version of the game was released the development team was christened NoLand Studios. The aim of the project was to make the first free MMORPG in Latin America and to serve as a platform of learning for those involved in the development. In December 2002, the game was in its final beta stages, it was almost two years of development, two years of hard work. The game has gotten an excellent welcome from people on the net, there are more that 2000 active players, most of them from Argentina, Latin America and Spain. There are three servers available to play the game: two in Argentina and one in Spain; all the servers are full of life, as soon as you enter to our magic world you will see people running, talking and fighting around you. The game has achieved a record of 375 simultaneous players on the main server, and usually there is more than 200 persons playing the game at any hour. Latin America consists of the countries of South America and some of North America (including Central America and some the islands of the Caribbean) whose inhabitants mostly speak Romance languages, although Native American languages are also spoken. ...

The final version of the game is still being developed. Bugs are being fixed and new features are being added. On 2002-11-25 the game's source code was released under GPL licence, since then many flavors of the game spawned as a result of the community's work. Argentum Online's 2D graphical engine is pretty basic, yet adequate to properly represent the magical world of Argentum. The game's developers feel that the relative success of the game is due to their refusal to follow traditional "recipes" and would rather be guided by their own imagination.
Game Play The most remarkable characteristics of Argentum are freedom and frankness. Freedom in the sense that the adventurers are allowed to do almost anything they want to. There are few MMORPGs like Argentum. In most of them, the players are not allowed to attack each other or to journey freely along the world. The game is also frank, since it does not ask the players to go on impossible quests. You begin the game by creating a new character. All characters have skills and attributes. Each skill or attribute is related to some action or task, and determines how good the player's characters are at performing it.
