The line serves stations between Dalmuir (a sub district of Clydebank), and the Clyde Valley, terminating at either Motherwell, Coatbridge or Lanark. The principal station on the route is Glasgow Central Low Level. Between Exhibition Centre (previously called Finnieston) and Dalmarnock, the line runs below ground.
Heading north west, Partick, the Argyle Line connects to the North Clyde Line, and shares the same track. Heading to the south east, it connects with, and shares the same track as the West Coast Main Line after Rutherglen until Shieldmuir, near Motherwell, where it branches off towards Wishaw and Lanark.
The subway is not the oldest underground railway in Glasgow itself; that distinction belongs to a 5 km stretch of the North Clyde line of the suburban railway network which runs in a sub-surface tunnel under the city centre between High Street and west of Charing Cross.
The line was formally reopened by the Queen on 1 November 1979.
Glasgow Central station and Argyle Street railway station (for the ArgyleLine) are both a short walk from St. Enoch, and most stations connect with bus routes.
