The Arid Land Ecology Reserve is the largest track of shrub-steppe ecosystem remaining in Washington state. It is managed for the U.S. Department of Energy by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (which is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy by Battelle Memorial Institute).
