Encyclopedia > Arizona State Highway 89

Arizona State Highway 89, or AZ-89, is the segment of old U.S. Highway 89 decommissioned between Ash Fork, junction Interstate 40 and its old junction with U.S. Highway 93 northwest of Wickenburg, Arizona. All of US 89 was decommissioned south of its current southern terminus with Interstate 40 in Flagstaff, Arizona after Interstates offered shorter and more direct routes than the old long-distance US 89 in central and southern Arizona. It is a largely north-south route; the largest city through which it now passes is Prescott, Arizona, where it meets Arizona State Highway 69 and the extremely scenic Arizona State Highway 89A.

The segment between Prescott and Congress, Arizona (junction Arizona State Highway 71) is quite scenic.

U.S. Route 89 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (325 words)
Highway 89 passes through some of the most beautiful parts of Wyoming, including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the Grand Canyon of the Snake River, and Star Valley.
As of 2005, the highway's northern terminus is Piegan, Montana at the Canadian border (the highway continues into Canada as Alberta Highway 2).
Prior to 1992, the southern terminus was at Nogales, Arizona.
U.S. Route 180 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (303 words)
As of 2004, the highway's eastern terminus is in Hudson Oaks, Texas (west of Fort Worth, near Weatherford) at an intersection with Interstate 20.
Its western terminus is unclear; though signage at an intersection 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Flagstaff, Arizona indicates that the route ends at Arizona State Highway 64, many maps continue the US 180 designation to the south rim of the Grand Canyon (at Grand Canyon Village, Arizona).
The intersection with eastbound Interstate 40/U.S. Route 89 is two miles to the east, and the intersection with westbound Interstate 40 and with Interstate 17 is three miles to the southwest.
