The Arlington Million is a race for thoroughbred horses age 3 years and upward. It is raced at 1 and 1/4 miles on the turf at Arlington Park. The race was introduced in 1981 by Richard Duchossois, the owner of Arlington at the time. The track famously ran the Arlington Million in 1985 under the shadow of a burnt out stand, the victim of a fire the previous night. John Henry succeeded in winning the race twice. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed developed in 18th century England when English mares were bred with imported Arabian stallions to create a distance racer. ... NOTE: No races were held at Arlington International Racecourse in 1998 or 1999, as the Illinois horse racing authorities did not authorise dates for the track. The 1988 race was held in Woodbine, Ontario.

From 1983 until 1986, the race was known as the Budweiser Million.


Run at Woodbine Racecourse in 1988; not run in 1998 and 1999.
