Skye has suffered famine and clearances over the latter part of the 18th century, leading to its badly depleted population of less than 10,000 at the 1991 Census.
Skye is linked to the mainland by the Skye Bridge, while ferries sail from Armadale on the island to Mallaig, and from Kylerhea to Glenelg.
The main settlements on the island are connected by the A87 road, Portree, Sconser and Broadford lying on the north east coast, and Uig on the north west.
SAA Tournament Calendar - Outdoors 2002 (679 words)
This was the 23rd year of the Clan Donald Tournament on the Isle of Skye.
The tournament is held early in July in the grounds of Armadale Castle, about a mile from the ferry terminal for Malaig on the mainland.
Skye week is a holiday as much as an Archery competition and it is great to see people coming back year after year and to welcome new faces.
