ArmonaIsland is reached via a 15-minute walk-on ferry from Olhão, the Algarve's largest fishing port and home to the best daily fish market in Portugal.
Upon reaching Armona (aerial photo, below), you'll see that "main street" is a wide, paved sidewalk leading from the dock's busy cluster of cafés and private homes out towards the Atlantic Ocean beaches on the far side of the island.
The hidden, shallow inlet beach 50 steps behind Casa Armona is perfect for children, shell collecting, clamming, star-gazing, exploring the ever-changing sandbars and, of course, lounging and swimming.
Armona Union was formed a year later, 11940 - Ô41 with the addition of Rustic, Paddock and Armona Schools and New Home came into the district a year later.
Island School District encompasses the original Island and San Jose School Districts which include up to the Lemoore Naval Air Station on the West to south of Fargo Avenue, the largest area in the Lake precinct.
Unionization of the San Jose and Island Schools took place in 1955 but the new building was not completed for five years.
