Abbas full-fledged disco record was still a couple of years away, but this song alone puts them in the upper class of dance pop acts in the 70s.
Abba has never really been credited with writing personal songs, and though pure pop music is rarely about making confessional stances, the show-weary sentiment of Super Trouper is one of the most straightforwardly personal songs as youre likely to hear on the radio.
Abba was basically a singles band, so these two greatest hits packages are the best place to start, and for most people, to stop.
ABBA are the most successful act ever to come out of Scandinavia, and rank among the top acts in the history of popular music.
Rolling Stone wrote that "Abba's emergence is one of the most cheering musical events of recent months", describing the album as "one of those infinitely playable records with a wealth of outstanding tracks", while Creem called it a "perfect blend of exceptional, lovable compositions ranging from bubblegum to psychedelic freakouts".
ABBA opened their much anticipated tour in Oslo, Norway, and mounted a lavishly produced spectacle of a show that included a few scenes from their self-penned mini-operetta.
