The Arrondissement of Sens is an arrondissement of the Yonne département, in the Burgundy région, in France.


Composition

  • Composition of the arrondissement since 1926:
  • Canton of Pont-sur-Yonne, has 16 communes:
    • Champigny, Chaumont, Cuy, Évry, Gisy-les-Nobles, Lixy, Michery, Pont-sur-Yonne, Saint-Agnan, Saint-Sérotin, Villeblevin, Villemanoche, Villenavotte, Villeneuve-la-Guyard, Villeperrot and Villethierry.
  • Canton of Saint-Julien-du-Sault, has 9 communes:
  • Canton of Sens-Nord-Est, created in the 1970s, has 5 communes:
    • Fontaine-la-Gaillarde, Saint-Clément, Saligny, Sens (parts of the commune) and Soucy.

The cantons of Sens-Nord-Est, Sens-Ouest and Sens-Sud-Est resulted from the reorganization of the old cantons of:


Old canton of Sens-Nord:
Fontaine-la-Gaillarde, Maillot, Malay-le-Grand, Malay-le-Petit, Noé, Passy, Rosoy (commune supprimée), Saint-Clément, Saligny, Sens (parts of the commune), Soucy, Vaumort and Véron.


Old canton of Sens-Sud :
Collemiers, Cornant, Courtois-sur-Yonne, Égriselles-le-Bocage, Étigny, Gron, Marsangy, Nailly, Paron, Saint-Denis, Saint-Martin-du-Tertre, Sens (parts of the commune) and (to be checked) Subligny.


Before 1926

From 1800 (year VIII on the French revolutionary calendar) until 1926, the arrondissement included/understood the current cantons, except:

  • Canton of Cerisiers, canton of Saint-Julien-du-Sault and the canton of Villeneuve-sur-Yonne, in 1926, the old arrondissement of Joigny was detached, and removed.
