Diplomatic Career

Arthur Lenk was appointed as Israel's fourth Ambassador to Azerbaijan by the Government of Israel on 3 April 2005[1] and he submitted his credentials to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on 13 September 2005. Prior to arriving in Baku, Lenk worked as a Counselor in the Department of International Law, Office of the Legal Adviser, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem. He was awarded an "outstanding diplomat" citation by Ministry of Foreign Affairs for his role in planning the January 2005 United Nations Special Session commemorating the Sixtieth Anniversary of the freeing of Europe's Concentration Camps[2]. Between 2002 – 2005 he served as a frequent Israeli Government spokesman and lecturer on foreign affairs and diplomacy. In 2001 and 2004 Lenk served as Israel's representative to the United Nations General Assembly's Legal Committee. In 2003-04 he worked as part of the Israel Government's legal team on Israel's position regarding the Israeli West Bank barrier case before the International Court of Justice. Lenk has served as Consul for Communications and Public Affairs at the Consulate General of Israel to the Southwestern United States, Los Angeles, California (1998 – 2000) and Second Secretary for Cultural and Academic Affairs at the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi, India (1996 – 1998). Lenk joined the Israeli Foreign Service and participating in the Foreign Officer Training Program in 1994.


Academia

Arthur Lenk taught a graduate seminar in “Foreign Policy, International Law and the Arab-Israel Conflict”, at the Herzog Center for Middle East Studies and Diplomacy, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, Be’er Sheva, Fall Semester 2003. He holds two law degrees from the Faculty of Law, Hebrew University of Jerusalem an LL.M. in International Law (2003) and an LL.B. (1990).
