Arvind Raghunathan

Arvind Raghunathan (born 1963) is a Managing Director and Head of Global Arbitrage at Deutsche Bank, where he has worked since 1995. Here, he manages a large part of the bank’s proprietary trading and investments in a variety of global financial instruments. Industry publications have named him several times as one of the world’s top traders. Born in India, Raghunathan attended the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras), as a National Science Talent Search scholar. After receiving his engineering degree in 1984, he moved to the United States and obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley in 1988. For the next 3 years, Raghunathan was Assistant Professor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences of New York University and the University of California, Davis, where he accomplished fundamental research on computing. During this time, Raghunathan also was a consultant for a number of corporations, including IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Xerox. He was elected as a Fellow of the Institute for Combinatorics in 1991. Raghunathan joined Credit Suisse First Boston later that year, where he was involved in all aspects of the Equities business. He joined Deutsche Bank in 1995, where he co-founded a new department called Equity Arbitrage. His group continued to grow and became one of the most successful units within the bank as well as in the industry. Raghunathan is actively involved in a number of non-profit organizations. He serves as a board member at the Dalton School in New York City. In Asia Society, he is on the advisory committee of the India Fund, which has sponsored major art and cultural events in the United States. He is also actively involved in establishing centers for South Asian studies at several universities in the United States. Raghunathan has led fundraising for Sankara Nethralaya, a charitable hospital that specializes in vision care in India. He has also raised funds for the Democratic Party. Raghunathan is one of four honorees for the 2007 Spirit of Asian American Gala [1], which serves to recognize each individual's direct, substantive contribution to society. This event will be hosted on May 8, 2007 by the Asian American Federation of New York, a nonprofit leadership organization.
