Asaba is the administrative capital of Nigeria's Delta State. The city is comprised mainly of the Igbo ethnic group while very large populations of Itsekiri, Urhobo,Isoko and Ijaw reside in the city. A growing Hausa and Yoruba communities also reside in the city. The Igbo speaking parts of Delta state feel marginalised by the state`s political structure. Thus are considering a separate state called "Anioma". The population of Asaba is about 2 million.(2005 Est.) Native Asaba people are historically known to be very humble and accommodating of travellers and strangers. Little wonder why Asaba remains about the safest and most peaceful city in Nigeria.
