Ofsted Ashcroft was placed into special measures in October 2003 due to `the quality of teaching and learning, the pupils' behaviour, and the effectiveness of leadership and management being of a poor standard'. [1] However, in November 2005, Ofsted deemed that the school had improved under the new leadership of Ms Monica Austin and removed the special measures from the school. They belived that 'Through her good leadership, determination for the school to provide a better education for its pupils, and the hard work and support of the other senior leaders and teachers, Ashcroft High has improved significantly`. [2] The school still needs to improve by improving provision for the pupils' different capabilities and giving guidance to the pupils on how to improve. These issues are being addressed currently.
