Ashfield (pop.40,100) is a suburb in the Municipality of Ashfield, in the inner-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
Ashfield is a middle-class suburb, with a mixture of transient residents (who tend to live in rental units), and longer-term residents (who tend to like the architecture, closeness to the city, and the quality of the public transport).
Ashfield and the Eastern Suburbs together are said to have the best public transport in Sydney, as Ashfield is serviced by both bus (with many feeder bus routes to the railway station), and by rail.
