History The line was built by South Eastern Railway (SER) as a branch from its London to Ashford mainline. Their rival London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) had already built to Canterbury and Ramsgate. The London and Greenwich Railway (LGR), together with the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway (CWR) in East Kent were the earliest railways to serve the then county of Kent: eventually both became parts of the South Eastern Railway (SER). ...
