"Ashokan Farewell" is the title theme chosen for the television miniseries The Civil War, which aired on PBS in 1990. Even though it is a modern piece, viewers of the The Civil War frequently, and erroneously, believe it was written and performed during the Civil War. In fact, it is the only modern composition in the soundtrack; all other music is authentic 19th century music.
