Ashoke Sen is an Indiantheoretical physicist who works on string theory. Sen received his PhD from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He worked as a research scientist in Fermilab and SLAC. Later he joined TIFR before he finally moved to HRI. He co-discovered S-duality and proposed a successful explanation of open stringtachyon condensation. He has also co-written many papers on string field theory. Sen is a winner of the ICTP Prize. Theoretical physics attempts to understand the world by making a model of reality, used for rationalizing, explaining, predicting physical phenomena through a physical theory. There are three types of theories in physics; mainstream theories, proposed theories and fringe theories. ... Interaction in the subatomic world: world lines of pointlike particles in the Standard Model or a world sheet swept up by closed strings in string theory String theory is a model of fundamental physics whose building blocks are one-dimensional extended objects (strings) rather than the zero-dimensional points (particles... PhD usually refers to the academic title Doctor of Philosophy PhD can also refer to the manga Phantasy Degree This is a disambiguation page â a list of pages that otherwise might share the same title. ... The State University of New York (acronym SUNY; usually pronounced SOO-nee) is a system of public institutions of higher education in New York, United States. ... In theoretical physics, S-duality (also a strong-weak duality) is an equivalence of two quantum field theories, string theories, or M-theory. ... An open string is a one-dimensional fundamental object in string theory that has two end-points, and therefore is topologically equivalent to a line interval. ... In physics, tachyon condensation is a process in which a tachyonic fieldâusually a scalar fieldâof a negative squared mass acquires a vacuum expectation value and reaches the minimum of the potential energy. ... String field theory is a proposal to define string theory in such a way that the background independence is respected. ...
