The Ashta-Mathas of Udupi are a group of eight mathas or monastaries established by Sri Madhvacharya the preceptor of the Dvaita school of Hindu thought. These mathas are situated in the temple town of Udupi. The heads of these mathas trace their traditions back to the group of eight of Sri Madhvacharya's direct disciples whom Madhvacharya had appointed as the chiefs of the mathas the he established.
