Askersund is a Municipality, in Örebro County, in central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 820.7 km². Of the total population of 11,530, 5,778 are male, and 5,752 are female. The population density of the community is 14 inhabitants per km².


Other towns and larger villages:

The city of Askersund received its privileges in 1643, but was regarded a town already in the 14th century. Today it has a population of 4,150 (1996). Askersund was planned to be the site of one out of two supply fortresses to Karlsborg Fortress, which was constructed in the 19th century. The city is located in the northernmost bay of Lake Vättern.
