Aspropyrgos (Greek: Ασπρόπυργος for white tower). is a suburban community located 20 NW of Athens in the heart of the Thriasian plain, and Thria was known in ancient times. Its location is around 38.1 or 38'06 N and 23.5 or 23'42 E. The population is around 27,500. Its dialing code is 210. Its main street is Dimokratias Avenue. Aspropyrgos used to be an petroleum|oil producing community and oil was its main industry along with agriculture. Agriculture is, however, rare today. Eleusis military airport forms its communal and municipal boundary in its west. Mount Parnitha is in the northeast. A small port is founded in the south and the shores are aligned with trees. Willow and other types of pineless trees dominate the city's coastline. Aegaleo mountain is in the southwest and its landscape is rocky. Its nearest highway is GR-8A/E94 with its interchange at 2 km south of the centre. The interchange was a junction until 1994. It was closed off from 1996 until 1997 to extend the number of lanes to four. The main street also serves a road that linked the Peloponnese and the northern and eastern suburbs of Athens. The industrial area is in the southeastern part of the Aspropyrgos and the entire south is also industrialized. Attiki Odos is now accessible to its north with an interchange.
