A number of sports have a statistic known as an assist:

  • An assist (hockey) goes to the player or players who helped set up a goal.
  • Much like hockey, an assist (soccer) goes to the player or players who helped set up a goal.
  • Similar to hockey, an assist (basketball) goes to the player whose pass facilitated a basket.
  • An assist (baseball) is awarded to every defensive player who touches the ball (after it has been hit by the batter) prior to the recording of a putout.
