The Canadian Olympic Committee is fully behind plans to establish in Calgary the country's first centre of sports excellence for elite athletes, the Calgary Olympic Development Association announced yesterday.
The centre is badly needed, said Chris Rudge, the CEO of the COC.
Some aspects of the local centre of excellence have received some funding, including upgrades to the Olympic Oval and the Canmore Nordic Centre, which is getting $16 million from the province for improvements.
