The Olympic Tennis Centre is a grouping of tennis courts at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. It hosted the tennis matches at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The centre consists of a main stadium, known as as the Main Court, seating 8,600 fans - though only 6,000 seats were made publicly available during the Olympics - two semifinal courts seating 4,300 spectators - though only 3,200 seats were made publicly available during the Olympics - and thirteen side courts seating 200 observers each. The centre was completed in February2004 and officially opened on August 2, 2004.
Each of the courts was a hardcourt. The Main Court, in particular, was extremely large by the standards of major tennis competitions, with the seats relatively far removed from the tennis court.
Although it was removed from the Olympic program after the 1924 Games and did not return as a medal sport until Seoul in 1988, tennis was a part of the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.
Given that the OlympicTennisCentre at Homebush features Rebound Ace courts - the surface used at the US Open - he will be among the favourites for the tournament.
Tennis is played by two individuals or teams of two on a rectangular court measuring 23.8 metres by 8.2 metres for singles (10.97 metres for doubles) divided by a net.
