Introduction

It was formerly known in Greece as ASOEE: "Ανωτάτη Σχολή Οικονομικών και Εμπορικών Επιστημών (ΑΣΟΕΕ), Anotati Sholi Oikonomikon kai Eborikon Epistimon (ASOEE)".


Today its Greek name is: "Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών (ΟΠΑ), Oikonomiko Panepistimio Athinon (OPA)". However, the general public still refers to it as ASOEE.


The initial name of the university after its establishment was "Athens School of Commercial Studies". In 1926 it was renamed as "Athens University of Economics and Business". International recognition

In a research carried out by Der Spiegel magazine among 500 European Universities, AUEB ranked in the top 5% being listed in the 25th place. In the field of Econometrics, AUEB comes internationally in the 48th place according to the Journal of Econometric Theory. AUEB has been selected by the European Union as the Center of Excellence for European Studies in Greece. The European Documentation Center of the AUEB is the coordinator of all the European Documentation Centers of Greek Universities.


Meeting the challenge of internationalization, the Master Programme in Decision Sciences is offered entirely in English. Within this Programme the GeM Specialization offers a joint degree in collaboration with a number of outstanding Universities in Europe and the U.S.A..


The department of Computer Science gets 8000 citations per year and has 5 professors in the top 10000 researchers by citations according to ACM.
