The Attack classpatrol boats were small coastal defence vessels built for the Royal Australian Navy and operated between 1967 and 1985. Many were eventually donated to the defence forces of Pacific nations.
Twenty boats were ordered by the Department of Defence in 1965 at a cost of around $AUD 800,000 each from two Queensland shipyards, Evans Deakin in Brisbane and Walkers in Maryborough.

The FEG undertakes patrol, surveillance and response operations with a boarding capability and is structured to manage the capability within a unique environment.
The PatrolBoats thus rely on the FEG and host bases to provide personnel, administrative and logistic support and support to Command Teams.
In December of 2005 conversion of the 110' Island-class patrolboats was halted at 8 units following the identification of significant hull buckling in the converted boats.
The 123 Island-class patrolboats are 123 feet long, have a beam of 21 feet, and draw 7.5 feet of water.
The 123-foot Island-class patrolboats are equipped with a single Mk 38 25mm Bushmaster cannon and either two M60D 7.62mm GP machine guns or two M2.50 caliber machineguns.
