Unfortunately Aubervilliers, as with the other neighbouring towns in the northern suburbs of Paris, is getting mostly negative attention as a place of violence, drugs, crime, under-education and growing religious extremism.
Aubervilliers is a town inhabited by many immigrants and immigrant families who have come to France searching for the "good life" of western culture.
As well as the physical violence ever present in Aubervilliers, there is a spiritual and emotional violence that often takes its toll on people who suddenly have found themselves alone and without resources or support.
AUBERVILLIERS, France (AP) - Marauding youths set fire to cars, warehouses and a nursery school and pelted rescuers with rocks early Saturday, as the worst rioting in a decade spread from Paris to other French cities.
Meanwhile, warehouses in Suresnes and Aubervilliers, on the northern edge of Paris, were set ablaze.
Officials said other fires raged outside the capital in Lille, Toulouse, and Rouen, while an incendiary device was tossed at the wall outside a synagogue in Pierrefitte, northwest of Paris.
