An Real Audiencia (Spanish: Royal Audiency) was a Judicial District that functioned as an Appeals Court. Each Audiencia had Oidores (Spanish: hearer, a judge). In what is now present Mexico, the Viceroy himself served as oidor, but several Audiencias existed in New Spain, such as in former Panama, Santo Domingo (West Indies and Venezuela), Mexico (Mexico City, Florida, Gulf of Mexico), Guatemala, and Nueva Galicia.
