Audrey Wise (1935-2000) was a politician in the United Kingdom. She was Labour Party member of Parliament for Preston from 1987 until her death.


She had earlier served as MP for Coventry South West from 1974 to 1979. She was president of the shop staff union, USDAW.

LIKE MANY in the labour movement, I was shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Audrey Wise, someone so vigorous that it is impossible to imagine her gone.
Audrey’s obituaries have varied from honest and well-earned praise in the Guardian and the Independent to a surreptitious attack in the Times and a venomous hatchet job in the Telegraph.
Audrey Wise was a wonderful woman and the labour movement is the lesser for her passing.

Mrs Wise's death leaves Preston without an MP The Labour MP for Preston, Audrey Wise, has died aged 65, her family has said.
She was a champion of women and children's rights and was also prepared to rebel against the government on issues such as welfare.
Its chairman, fellow Labour MP David Hinchcliffe, said: "Audrey Wise was the energy behind much of the health committee's work over very many years and has been the often unrecognised driving force at the heart of changes in policy by successive governments, especially in relation to provision for women and children.
