The Augean Stable was one of the Twelve Labours of Hercules. Hercules's task was to clean out a stable that had been soiled by years of neglect. Hercules succeeded by using a boulder to gouge out a trench, diverting a river through the stable.
He is best known for his stables, which housed the single greatest number of cattle in the country and had never been cleaned until the great hero Heracles came along.
The fifth of the Twelve Labours set to Heracles was to clean the Augeanstables in a single day.
These sins were said to be washed away as the sun arose again, and the next sign of the Zodiac is Aquarius, who is implicated in Greek mythology as causing a great flood.
