August Schrader was an enterprising Germanimmigrant who set up a shop dealing in rubber products in Manhattan. In 1845 he is supplying fittings and valves for rubber products made by Goodyear Brothers. These include air pillows and life preservers. His original shop was at 115 John Street in Manhattan. He was a maker of daguerreotype apparatus. Shortly there after he went into partnership with Christian Baecher, at this same address. Christian was a turner and a finisher of brass.
Whilst watching divers at work at a nearby jetty he decides he can improve the diving helmet being used. A new copper helmet is made by him in 1849. Further interest in the diving business leads to him designing an air pump for use by divers.
Aroung 1890, reportedly after some Englishcyclists were extremely successful using a pneumatictyre he sees the need for a tyre valve and invents the Schrader valve which is still in use today, though August Schrader’s son, George Schrader, is generally credited with the experimental work that results in the design of the tire valve.
In 1891 Schrader produces the first tire valve for bicycles. Later in 1896 Schrader patents the tire valve cap. Tire valves for automobiles are introduced soon after this.
Schrader filed the paperwork Friday to seek his second term in District 1, a sprawling area of sparsely developed lands in east Pasco County.
So far, Schrader, a Republican, is the only candidate for the District 1 seat, which he won in 2000 after longtime Commissioner Sylvia Young announced her retirement.
Schrader said he came to support the tax after learning the county had limited dollars to fix existing road problems, and no source of cash to buy conservation land.
Schrader said the contracted individual or company will undertake a comprehensive look at school population projections in the next five to 10 years, the amenities of each of the schools and the structural safety of the schools.
Schrader said she expects it will take three months to complete the studies.
Schrader said the overcrowding problem will only get worse if a study is not completed soon.
